WPISD Back to School Fair

We are once again partnering with the WPISD in hosting the 6th annual “Back to School Fair” for our district students who qualify for free/reduced lunches. The event will be at the high school from 9am-12 noon on Saturday, August 12, 2017. Last year was a great success with 413 students being provided with school supplies, haircuts, vaccinations, dental supplies and eye screenings. This event continues to grow, and we expect even more participants this year. Last year we made two changes that really improved the verification process and increased the number of students we were able to help. Specifically, we scaled down the school supply lists given by each campus to a ‘starter kit’ of school supplies, and we put into place a process to verify student enrollment in OUR district and gave only one bag of supplies to each student once verified. Since they were so successful, these practices will now be in place each year, but we are always open to feedback to improve the efficiency and quality of the Fair. Our continued goal is to help provide school supplies (Pre-K thru 12th) for each student that participates. This year we want to provide 50 complete sets for Pre-K thru 6 and 150 sets for JH and HS, collectively. Amanda Johns and Carol Miracle are working with local churches, civic organizations and businesses to collect supplies from now until the event. To make it easier, we have enclosed a spreadsheet listing each item, estimated price and number needed to cover all campuses. If you do choose to donate supplies, we ask that you please select an item(s) from the spreadsheet, commit to collecting the total number needed, and notify us ASAP of your selection(s). We set up a FB page (Wills Point Back to School Fair) last year and will keep the list updated as items are selected this year, so check the page before deciding which item(s) you wish to select. There will also be info about the Fair and a link to our FB page on the WPISD website. Checks should be made payable to “WP PTO – Back to School Fair”. Supply donations will be collected and stored at the HS library until the Fair. Supplies can be dropped off at either the HS or Administration Office from 8am-4pm, M-Th until the Fair. Also, we are asking that your supply AND monetary donations be dropped off or given to us no later than Friday, August 4. We hope you will choose to join us in support of this year’s Fair.
