The Wills Point public school system was established in 1886 under the leadership of Wills Point’s first Mayor, Thomas J. McKain. Classes began in a rented building on North Fourth Street. Professor W. I. Cowles served as the first Superintendent in 1891. School trustees purchased 6.1 acres from the home sit of John O’Neal to build the first school house. The property became the nucleus of the district’s later growth and several school buildings have been constructed in that site throughout the years. More than twenty rural schools have consolidated to form the Wills Point Independent School District.
The mission of Wills Point Independent School District is to provide all learners with a safe environment and opportunities to become self-reliant, productive members of a technologically-driven, global society. The district’s vision is a community that engages all learners in an exemplary educational program.
